This past week kicked off Grit Camp for the summer of 2021. We had fantastic weather all week for our 41 campers and 16 counselors. The kids were split into 3 groups based on age categories and enjoyed all types of field sports like soccer, flag football, lacrosse, kickball, and hoopjam (combination of flag football, ultimate, and soccer). Our court/indoor sports included basketball, corn hole, gaga ball, dodgeball, sting, and four corners.
Each day during snack time features 'counselor competition' including most shots made in around the world, knockout, 3 on 3 basketball, and half court shots. Our afternoon session is kicked off by our 'Showcase events' which feature our high school athletes performing drills for their particular sport which included football, volleyball, and lacrosse.
Each camper also completed our Grit Combine - 10 various events to test the athletes overall level of fitness in order to identify areas of strength and areas of improvement. On Friday, each camper is recognized by their counselors and presented with a certificate that includes their stats as well as our Grit Creed which we use to kick off camp each morning.
Our food was catered by a different local restaurant each day and also included a healthy snack in the morning and an afternoon treat. Our featured movie during lunch this week was 'Crooked Arrows' - an inspirational lacrosse movie. We also had the honor of hearing from our guest speaker, Charlie Jimerson, a local attorney and businessman as well as MMA commentator and coach. He spoke about Grit and the idea of thinking big. We also had a fantastic water day on Thursday that included a slip in slide and waterslide kickball!
This week, Grit Camp supplied over $2,000 to local restaurants and over $2,500 to our interns as well as dozens of hours of community service for some of them. We have another exciting week in store for this week, so stay tuned. And check out our video recap for the week which was sent out to each parent on Friday afternoon (check out the video below):
Hey Brian, congratulations!
As time goes on your Grit project which was once a dream is getting underway.
The students have yielded fantastic results, so it is all coming together.
The first customers and interns are the ones you will always remember and the quantity of Grit interns will grow as time goes on.
It will be great at the end of these months to see how they have progressed in their
Mental development
Emotional development
and physical development
which would have all boosted their personal growth.
These Grit students are all working hard within your program and will continue to do so.
As mentioned in my other blog comment, Grit was a 'seed' project in your head and now…
